This Monday, October 3rd, we awarded 6 DC area charities with donations at our first annual 100th Home for Charity giveaway! Giving to local DC area charities is something we highly value at the Nellis Group and last night we gave out a total of $10,000 to some very deserving charities. The event was a huge success and we had a great presentation of the donations with each charity coming up to give a brief overview of how they are helping the community that you can watch below.
After votes from the community narrowed our selection of 17 charities to 6, those finalists were then voted on and ranked. The highest voted charity received the top donation and walked away with $6000.
Fellowship of Christian Athletes is a ministry that shares the gospel of Jesus Christ with coaches and athletes in middle schools, high schools, colleges and universities across Northern Virginia. FCA came in sixth place in our giveaway!
Virginia Vipers Veterans Softball Club is an organization that supports Veterans and provides them with a team to play with and belong to. The Vipers remain victorious in fifth place!
Central Union Mission works closely with the poor and homeless in Washington D.C. Union Mission landed in fourth place in the ranking!
National Capitol Lyme Association strives to educate people about Lyme disease and support those afflicted with it. Nat Cap Lyme was our charity ranked third in the giveaway!
DC127 is a movement of local churches that works to ensure foster children have safe and stable homes and to prevent families from being separated once in foster care. DC127 was our charity ranked second in the giveaway!
Finally, our grand prizewinner, coming in at first place was Homeward Trails Animal Rescue! They are a nonprofit that takes in animals from the street or from animal shelters. Their goal is to place every one of their animals in loving homes and they do so with the help of many volunteers. Homeward Trails had overwhelming support from the community and we are glad that they have received the top donation so that they can continue to expand their organization!
All of these charities align with what we believe to be important at the Nellis Group and we congratulate each of these organizations on their winnings. Thank you to all who voted and for partnering with us as we reward these DC area charities for their good works!
