For the Love of Strathmore. Bethesda’s Cultural Nucleolus

Where else in Bethesda, or Maryland for that matter, can you find such a cultural gem? Strathmore’s campus consists of the original Strathmore Mansion and the Music Center. The arts complex is easily accessible via the WMATA Grosvenor-Strathmore Redline Metro Station in Bethesda Maryland. For over 25 years this handsome Neo-Georgian mansion that’s majestically sited on 11 manicured acres has been home to the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the National Philharmonic, Levine Music, City Dance, interPLAY Orchestra, and others; all presented by the Strathmore Hall Foundation. Everything from R&B, blue grass, jazz, symphonies, orchestras, rock, blues, and ballet, to opera can be seen and heard within these hallowed walls. During the warmer months, take a leisurely stroll through the sculpture garden for a little visual stimulation. The grounds of Strathmore are also home to a free summer series of local artists who entertain weekly. Pack a blanket and some snacks, bring the family and let the crooning take you away. Strathmore isn’t just about bringing world-class performers to the DMV, this is also a leading cultural institution for musicians and dancers! The primary goal of the Strathmore Hall Foundation is “maintaining affordable and accessible arts programs to all audiences, an abiding partnership of both private and public support for Strathmore is required to nurture and perpetuate this creative endeavor to provide a ‘home for the arts’ in our growing community.” (SHF)
