Twice a year the educators of Hard Bargain Farm open the doors to their 330-acre property to homeschooled students and their families. For homeschooled children, being able to participate in similar activities, to include fieldtrips, is as important to their development as the curriculum that is chosen for them. The implementation of fieldtrips helps to make the subjects and topics being taught come to life in ways that simply reading them can’t. Reading about fossils and the scale of woolly mammoths is one thing, taking a trip to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History and actually SEEING the dramatically posed behemoths is quite another.
The good folks at Hard Bargain Farm understand the importance and necessity of these layers to the learning process and have decided to share these experiences with homeschoolers around the area. The fieldtrip is centered on hands-on learning involving science and agriculture. The first three days will focus on exploring agriculture, the second on survival science, and the third on water quality. Students and their families will visit three 30-minute learning stations staffed by HBF’s trained educators who will help guide and facilitate student discovery and engagement. For added educational value, have your students write a short essay on all the things they saw and learned from this experience, oh- and don’t forget to bring your camera and a trash-free lunch!
Tickets are $10 per child. For families with three or more children, the family rate is $30. An Adult head count will also be needed, so please register appropriately. Note: Adults must accompany students at all times.
